VoloCopter¡¯s VoloConnect Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft Successfully Completes First Flight

Jun 15,2022

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) company Volocopter announced today that VoloConnect, its fixed-winged passenger aircraft, successfully completed its first flight this month. This achievement makes Volocopter the world¡¯s only eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft) developer to boast an entire fleet of distinct aircraft configurations undergoing flight tests.

Unlike its predecessors, VoloConnect is capable of faster journeys than any other Volocopter aircraft to date. It has a range of over 60-miles and flight speeds over 155 mph. The VoloConnect¡¯s extended range and higher payload aims to bring business travelers and commuters beyond the city center on routes such as Burbank to Huntington Beach in Los Angeles, CA by 2026. The VoloCity is going airborne a bit sooner with a commercial launch set for 2024. Joby Aviation would be one of its main competitors in the air taxi space.

¡°Having a whole family of electric aircraft in the test flight phase is a pioneering feat. Volocopter¡¯s leadership in the industry stems from announcing plans and then delivering on them visibly with public test flights. Our technology platform is the foundation for our family of aircraft approach and has proven to deliver results at an astounding speed. Volocopter is bringing these innovative designs off the ground, into the air, and then to cities worldwide!,¡± said Florian Reuter, Volocopter CEO.

Under this background, Aviation Digitization Technology Forum Virtual 2022 is planned to be held online from July 26th to 28th, 2022, focusing on the Future Aircraft Power Development with aero-space manufacturing engineers, aerospace project procurement heads, aviation MRO engineers, electric aircraft and system providers, evtol developers, aircraft and aero-engine designers. Together to explore engine development digital technology, engine operation and maintenance digital technology, aviation power system technology development, and prospects of hydrogen battery development, following the trends of future engine design and development and green aviation power system development.
