GE Aviation, CFM secure $3B contract at Airshow China 2016

GE Aviation and CFM International, a 50/50 joint company between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, announced more than $3 billion in orders and commitments at the Airshow China 2016 (1st ¨C 6th of November 2016). The orders and commitments included more than 200 GE and CFM engines as well as agreements for TrueChoice suite of engine maintenance offerings.

The orders or commitments include several deals with the Chinese companies.

CDB Leasing has selected CFM LEAP-1A engines to power 100% of its first batch of next generation single aisle aircraft orders, valued at $1.26 billion at list price.

Xiamen Airlines signed an agreement to select GEnx-1B engine to power its additional six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, as well as a TrueChoice Material agreement for the new GEnx-1B fleet for the new and used material and advance repairs needed for engine MRO. The engine order and TrueChoice Material agreement are valued at more than $630 million at list price and over the life of the contract.

COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) held a signing ceremony with China Aerospace Leasing (CASLC) for 20 firm and 20 options of ARJ21-700 aircraft powered by GE's CF34-10A engines. The engine order for the 20 firm aircraft is valued at $155 million at list price.

China Southern signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GE Aviation to select GE's GEnx-1B engines to power its 12 newly purchased and 8 leased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The engine order is valued at $1.1 billion at list price.

GE Aviation also announced other agreements such as digital collaboration with COMAC and training cooperation between CFM International and Aero Engine Maintenance and Training Center (AEMTC) in Guanghan City, China.

According to the forecast, in the next 10 years, the global turbofan/turbojet engine accumulative total demand will exceed 73600 units, worth over USD 416 billion; total demand for turboshaft exceed 34,000 units, worth over USD 19 billion; turboprop engine total demand exceeds 1.6 million units, worth over USD 15 billion; piston engine cumulative total demand over 33,000 units, accounting for more than 60% of the general aviation power market, worth USD 30 billion. Under this background, Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics will hold China Aerospace Propulsion Technology Summit 2017 to promote the development of aerospace propulsion technology, providing strong technical support for aero engine industry.
