Esterline seeking to participate in MA700 project

Esterline Power Systems is seeking opportunities generated from the launch of MA700 project, the new generation turboprop regional aircraft development by AVIC Aircraft（中航飞机), according to Esterline president Mark Thek.
The company is applying to participate in the MA700 project through its joint venture with AVIC, said Mark on the sidelines of “2013 Aero Electromechanics China” held by Galleon Events recently in Xi’an.
The joint venture, called Guizhou Leach-Tianyi Aviation Electrical Co.（贵州利奇－天义航空电器有限公司, was established between Esterline and Tianyi Electrical Co（天义电器), an AVIC subsidiary in Zunyi, Guizhou Province, in 1999. It produces relays, contacts and other power distribution components used in aviation electric power systems. According to Mark, the JV plays a major role in assembly by importing components from Esterline. Esterline then resells these products to Boeing and Airbus as well as other aviation system contractors.
As the Chinese aviation industry grows, Esterline has expanded its sales to China through the JV. “Our partner has good connections in the industry,” said Mark, adding that they rely on the Chinese partner to develop Chinese market.
It has supplied its products to North Carolina-based UTC Aerospace System, which will finally provide the electric system for C919, the narrow-body commercial aircraft China is developing under Commercial Aviation Corporation of China(Comac).
Mark introduced that its products are also used in several types of aircrafts independently developed by China, including MA60, the previous version of MA700, Y12, the light multifunctional aircraft developed by AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Co. and ARJ21, the regional jet developed by Comac.
Xportreporter has reported that AVIC Shaanxi Aero Electric Co（陕西航空电气）, which has won a contract with UTAS to supply electric system for C919, will participate in the development of MA700. Shaanxi Aero makes power generation and distribution components and it reveals that it may seek international partners and import components.
