Another Large New Hangar Officially Commences Operation in Chongqing, Filling the Gap in Full Deep Overhaul Capability for Wide-body Aircraft

On September 18, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport announced that the city has added a new engine to its efforts to build an inland international aviation hub. A large new hangar has officially been put into operation in Chongqing, making it the largest and most intelligently standardized aircraft maintenance complex in the city to date.

This large new hangar is equivalent to an aircraft "4S store." It is located on the west side of the northern end of the runway at Terminal 3B of Chongqing Airport, with a total floor area of approximately 31,200 square meters. In the future, it will significantly enhance Jiangbei International Airport's full-chain support capabilities, including complete aircraft inspection and repair as well as routine operations and maintenance. The new hangar was invested in and constructed by Chongqing Airport Group and, once completed, is leased and operated by GAMECO. It is a core layout project for GAMECO's maintenance capacity upgrade in Southwest China.

According to reports, it can simultaneously accommodate one wide-body aircraft and two narrow-body aircraft for inspection and maintenance. With three aircraft under maintenance at the same time, the hangar offers an exceptionally large operational space, featuring over 10,000 square meters of column-free workspace, with the hangar roof grid structure weighing over 1,800 tonnes.

The official commencement of operations at this new hangar marks a formal upgrade of its maintenance capabilities in Chongqing from line maintenance and light checks to the level of deep overhaul for wide-body aircraft. The hardware station configuration can cover multiple business scenarios, including scheduled inspections, complete aircraft overhauls, and component repairs.

Leveraging the full set of CCAR-145 wide-body overhaul ratings already held by GAMECO's Guangzhou headquarters, and having passed the Civil Aviation Administration of China's "one certificate, multiple locations" maintenance site certification, it is currently the only maintenance site at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport capable of conducting C-checks, D-checks, and other complete deep overhauls of wide-body passenger aircraft.

At the same time, this "4S store" is highly intelligent. It is equipped with fully automatic doors, a 24-hour structural intelligent monitoring platform, and a safety protection and early warning system, achieving digitalized control throughout the entire inspection and maintenance process and on-site operations.

"After the project is put into use, Jiangbei International Airport will fill the gap in complete aircraft deep inspection and repair capabilities, forming a complete aviation maintenance chain covering transit repairs, scheduled inspections and maintenance, and complete aircraft servicing," said a relevant official from Jiangbei International Airport. In the future, the base will complement and coordinate with the Chengdu Shuangliu and Tianfu overhaul bases, supporting the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airport cluster. It will be of great significance for improving Chongqing's airport-centric industrial chain and consolidating the hardware foundation of its inland opening-up air gateway.
